Mini Artists - Messy Play and story time for the under 5s

10.30am-11.45am

We provide a fun and safe environment for young children to create and experience new things - plus we do all the clearing up!

  • Friday 24 May 

£1.35 per parent or carer plus the usual admission charge (under 4's are free). This includes tea or coffee and juice for the mini artists.

Art Activity

Half Term Activities at the DLI

Daily during half-term week 27 May - 2 June

During half term come along to the DLI and there will be a variety of art and craft activities taking place daily. There will be art sessions in the gallery for children and artefact handling in the museum for all. Also on the afternoon of Saturday 1 June Interface Arts will be running an open workshop led by textile artist Catherine Howard.

On Sunday 2 June we will also be hosting the first of our Summer Brass Band concerts with Pittington Brass performing a FREE concert in the grounds outside the Museum at 2pm.

Outdoor Brass Band Concerts in the Grounds of the DLI Museum & Art Gallery

Sunday afternoons from 2.00pm - FREE

Come along to our popular programme of brass band concerts in our beautiful landscaped grounds beside the DLI. The DLI Café will be open all afternoon serving refreshments and ice-creams.

  • Sunday 30 June - Armed Forces Day Event
  • Sunday 8 July - Durham County Brass Band Association Contest; performances all day from 10am

  • Sunday 28 July - Bearpark and Esh Colliery Band

All concerts are free of charge and start at 2.00pm. The DLI Museum and Art Gallery will be open daily 10.00am to 5.00pm.

Recording Britain, Exhibition Talk - Gill Saunders

Saturday 8 June 2.00pm

Gill Saunders, Senior Curator of Prints at the Victoria and Albert Museum and curator of the Recording Britain exhibition will give a unique insight into this extraordinary documentary art project.

Recording Britain - Guided Tours

Monday 17 June - 12.30pm

We will be conducting a free guided tour of the Recording Britain exhibition on Monday 17 June. Normal admission charges apply, no booking necessary.
