Artist's Talk

Join art historian Gail-Nina Anderson as she discuesses the concept of the artist's portrait from Renaissance Art to the grandest of Victorian statements and the knowing games played by 20th century and contemporary painters and photographers.

Art and Craft Sessions for Toddlers!

10.00am - 11.45am

Incorporating messy play, the dli staff are running a series of sessions for toddlers aged 1-4 years old.

We provide a fun and safe environment for young children to create and experience new activities - PLUS WE DO ALL THE CLEARING UP!

Each session will focus on a different theme, depending on the season or festival.

Aprons are provided and washable paints and glues are used, but old clothes are recommended.

Price - £4.00 per parent or carer (50p for Season Ticket Holders) which includes admission, tea/coffee and juice for kids - under 5's free.

Create your own portrait!

Monday 15, Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 February 2010

10.30am - 12.30am and 1.00pm - 3.00pm

Create your own portrait with artist Sharon Wilson using traditional and experimental painting techniques to represent yourself as a work of art.

The current art gallery exhibition is The Ruth Borchard Collection, a selection of British self-portraits from the Twentieth Century.

No booking necessary, just drop in!
Normal museum and gallery admission charges apply.

Art in the Museum

1.30 - 3.30pm

Drawing or print making, stories or poems - drop in art workshops.

Bringing together the different aspects of the dli building, these activities are an opportunity to get more involved with the objects in the museum collections - vehicles, medals, uniforms, weapons, hats...

For each session, the different aspects of the collections are listed as well as the type of activity.

Saturday 13 February: Hats & Helmets - Drawing

Sunday 14 February: Machines - Print Making

Wednesday 17 February: Medaks - Stories and Poems.

All materials supplied. Suitable for adults and children over five.

No booking necessary.

These sessions are free (other than normal dli admission).
