Code of Corporate Governance
Governance is about how we the Police Authority ensures that we are doing the right things, in the right way, for you in a timely, inclusive, open and accountable manner.
This Code of Corporate Governance describes how we discharge our responsibilities in this respect, and particularly our two overarching statutory responsibilities:
- To secure an efficient and effective local police service; and
- To hold to account the Chief Constable of Durham Constabulary for the exercise of his functions and those of persons under his direction and control.

Joint Community Engagement Strategy
In partnership with Durham Constabulary we have an engagement strategy where we are committed to involving communities across County Durham and Darlington in our work. It is an important document for us, as engaging with you is vital to ensure your local views, thoughts and opinions are taken into consideration when identifying policing priorities.
We would like to undertake our engagement in as many different ways possible, in order to gather your views that reflect a true picture of the kind of service that you would like from the police.
Our Strategy aims to avoid duplication in the way we and our partners engage with you, and identify consultation methods which make it easier for communities to be involved in decision making that affects you.

The Strategy will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, and we are seeking views on how it should evolve over the next three years from communities and stakeholders, to ensure it is fit for purpose.
Alongside the Strategy, we have a one year action plan which will be renewed each year. This plan sets out how we will go about delivering on the Strategy in year one.
