Who We Are
Durham Police Authority consists of seventeen members as prescribed under Section 3 of the Police Act 1996.
- Nine councillors nominated by the local authorities of the area.
- Eight independent members who are directly appointed.
Members can be re-elected or re-appointed, unless disqualified from previous membership. This mix of people provides a wide range of backgrounds and skills that contributes to the work we do.
All seventeen members of the Police Authority must live or work within the Police Authority area of County Durham or Darlington.
Of the 17 members who serve the Police Authority, 12 are male and 5 are female.
